The immediate surroundings of the Pont d’Arc site have been listed among “Sites et Paysages” in 1982. In 2013 the site expands to a total surface of 1362 ha site including the decorated Pont-d’Arc cave (surface and depth). Within the boundaries of this territory any destruction or modification is prohibited without special permission. Camping and caravanning are prohibited, as is advertising of any kind. Located extremely close to the Chauvet Cave, the Pont d’Arc site will be subject to its own labeling project “Opération Grand Site” starting in 2016.
